After you receive this alert, we will make the following trades:
- Sell 143 shares of Marvell MRVL at or near $118. Following the trade, the Portfolio will own 1,752 MRVL shares, roughly 4.1% of the Portfolio.
- Sell 120 shares of Nvidia NVDA at or near $149. Following the trade, the Portfolio will own 1,390 NVDA shares, roughly 4.1% of the Portfolio.
We expected Nvidia’s Jensen Huang to deliver the goods during his CES 2025 keynote last night and he sure did. Huang offered a vision for how AI will spread through the economy and made several announcements, including working with Toyota TM and Uber UBER on autonomous driving solutions, Nvidia Cosmos, and a new desktop PC called Project Digits. Those comments, along with Hon Hai’s record December quarter revenue, popped NVDA shares as well as those for Marvell MRVL, pushing them each past 4.5% of the Portfolio’s assets.
That is triggering some prudent Portfolio management on our part, which also happens to lock in a slice of tremendous gains in both positions given their gains since bottoming in early August. With NVDA, that’s a gain of more than 50%, while for MRVL it’s more than a double.
Reflecting on Huang’s outlook as well as other findings that show companies and other entities are ramping IT spending on AI, we are still in the relatively early innings for AI adoption. That realization means we will remain owners of NVDA and MRVL shares to benefit from the eventual capacity crunch as AI adoption proliferates across a wider array of connected devices.
We do plan on revisiting our price targets for NVDA and MRVL shares once we have Taiwan Semi’s TSM December revenue report. To us, that is the fourth leg of this week’s AI stool, with the other three being Jensen’s keynote, Hon Hai’s December quarter news and CES 2025 announcements.
