When politicians buy and sell stocks, investors take note. After all, a senator or representative may have insight into a company that you or I could never possess.

Nancy Pelosi’s investments in particular have drawn considerable attention. The former Speaker of the House is well known for disclosing purchases of Nvidia NVDA in each of the past four years.

Before we begin, one caveat: Please be advised that this article is not political in nature. I’m not here to vilify Pelosi, nor to praise her. I’m simply trying to gain an edge.

Earlier this week, Pelosi disclosed two purchases of 50 calls each for Alphabet GOOGL and Amazon AMZN. Based on her choices, Pelosi may know how to read charts, because she just purchased several technically-strong names that are setting up for further gains.

Amazon’s chart reveals a consolidation of the stock’s recent gains (shaded yellow). The stock is supported by its 50-day moving average (blue), which parallels a bullish trendline (black dotted line).

GRADE: B+

Alphabet’s chart also features a bullish consolidation, in the form of an ascending triangle pattern (black dotted lines). The stock’s volume has been subdued during this consolidation, which is normal price behavior. Like Amazon, Alphabet is trading very close to an all-time high.

GRADE: B+

In both cases, Pelosi purchased 50 contracts of $150 calls expiring on January 16, 2026. Amazon is scheduled to report earnings on January 30, while Alphabet is scheduled for February 4.

In addition, Pelosi purchased 50 contracts of $50 calls for Vistra Corp. VST, also expiring on January 16, 2026. On Wednesday, the stock traded at an all-time high. The Irving, Texas-based Vistra is rising steadily on increasing volume (shaded yellow).

This power generation and energy company stands to gain from the recently-announced Stargate project. Stargate is a new AI-focused project involving Oracle ORCL, OpenAI, SoftBank SFTBY, and several other tech companies.

GRADE: A

Pelosi also purchased 50 contracts of $20 call options in Tempus AI TEM, expiring on January 16, 2026. This is a relatively small company (market capitalization of $7.7 billion) AI-focused company based in Chicago, Illinois.

The Tempus AI chart isn’t great, but It’s difficult to make a judgement based on this chart, since the company only went public in June 2024. Because of the small sample size, any judgement based on the available data would be of questionable value.

GRADE: INCOMPLETE

At the time of publication, Ponsi was long VST.
