The Economic Data Point That Will Really Matter This Week
Here's why these numbers are far more important than today’s Fed meeting minutes.

The Fed will release its latest minutes for the FOMC meeting of Jan. 28-29 at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. However, our thinking continues to be that Friday’s Flash February PMI data will be the most telling economic report we’ll get this week.
As we see it, what the Flash PMI data finds on inflation and captures regarding initial Trump tariffs will be far more insightful than today’s Fed meeting minutes. Remember, that meeting was held before we received the January CPI and PPI data, data that led Fed Chair Jerome Powell to comment during last week’s congressional testimony that the central bank has more work to do.
