The Pro Portfolio’s dance card is busier this week than last, especially with the outcome of the Fed’s latest policy meeting and Meta’s META Connect event Wednesday night. While we wait for those events and what they reveal, we are updating our calendar to reflect some other upcoming happenings.
Later this week, on September 18, American Express AXP will unveil a new travel-related app, Amex Passport. It will offer all-in-one booking, destination inspiration, and smart planning tools, integrating curated travel insights and benefits from Amex’s Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection.
We see this as a tool for Amex to better compete with the likes of JPMorgan Chase JPM and others in the premium card space. To us, this is a nice-to-have development, but the larger looming catalyst for AXP shares is the company’s pending refresh for its Platinum line of cards.
Meanwhile, Amazon AMZN will host a hardware event on September 30 at which it will likely unveil new Echo devices, refreshed Kindle products, and other smart home devices. The event is likely to focus on Alexa upgrades following the recent rollout of Alexa+, with its generative AI and conversational improvements. We’ll have more on this once we see the devices and potential use cases, but the event could serve to remind folks about Amazon’s AI efforts and how it continues to focus on removing what we call transactional friction.
We will also want to mark our calendars for October 7-8, which will see the return of Amazon's Prime Big Deal days, and what is likely to be the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season.
Finally, earlier this month, we tipped you that Microsoft’s MSFT recently paid $0.83 per share quarterly dividend was its fourth at that level, and based on past timing, we could see the company announce a fresh dividend increase. Score an easy layup for us because Microsoft’s board has announced a new $0.91 per share quarterly dividend, a nice 10% increase, that will be paid on December 11 to shareholders of record on November 20. This marks the 20th consecutive year Microsoft has raised its dividend and puts it on a nice path for potential inclusion in the Dividend Aristocrats.
As more companies announce upcoming dividend payments or other events, we’ll be sure to share those dates with you.
