Thank you to all who tuned in on January 22nd for our first Live Quarterly Meeting of 2025. This one showcased one of TheStreet Pro’s favorite names, James DePorre, also known as Rev Shark, with two of our newer contributors, Louis Llanes and Kate Stalter (who returned after nine years away).

We covered their 2025 investing resolutions as well as their thoughts on the economy and markets. You can watch a replay of the event and read a brief summary below (or read the transcript here).

We kicked the discussion off with our panelists' 2025 investment resolutions, the things that they want to do better this year.

  • Rev plans to be more committed to his best ideas and to trade them in bigger size. He’s comfortable with his overall strategy and feels that he could always be more aggressive.
  • Louis has written and presented about position sizing, and agrees with Rev. He’d like to be better at pressing his winners. But, he also wants to trade a little less. He’d like to have a longer-term focus where he hangs onto his best ideas for a little bit longer.
  • Kate plans to focus on tactical allocation, including actively considering thematic ETFs.

Next, we discussed the state of the economy. The one thing everybody agreed upon is that there will be volatility this year. Louis added that, while tariffs and workforce changes could be inflationary, the economy could surprise to the upside. Be careful of last year’s high flyers, which are priced for perfection.

Crypto is a hot topic, especially with the Trump administration’s focus on it and our team wondered if it might go mainstream. The panelists all see crypto as speculative. Louis and Rev both see it as a trading vehicle, while Kate notes that the adoption of crypto ETFs by financial advisors is an initial step in it going mainstream. Will it become a store of value? Probably not for many years. Until then, trade away! It’s a new asset class but best used for trading.

On the stock market front, we know that our panel remains bullish and is concerned about volatility. But we also wondered if perhaps speculation had run amok. The big issue, according to Rev, is that just 30% of the big caps have outperformed in recent years. The bull market has been very concentrated.

So, where is the opportunity in 2025? Small caps! In fact, Kate noted that the Russell 2000 has been beating the S&P 500 since late December. But Louis cautioned that it’s not wise to index small-caps. Many of these companies are unprofitable and may never make money. So, be selective.

Let’s get to the ideas.

Rev was the stock picker of the bunch and he gave us several great ideas, centered around the themes of Space, Cybersecurity, and Quantum Computing. His favorite stocks include RDWIONQ, and RGTI. All are overextended and he’d be interested in them on a pullback.

On the crypto front, again, our team feels that you can trade this asset class opportunistically. We didn’t make a long or short-term call here, but IBIT was one ETF that you should watch.

Articles related to each of these ideas and others from Louis and Rev Shark are below. Kate will begin publishing soon.
